    Dytiscus marginalis.
Not one of my best but the only one I got in this position. Must try again. Had too do a fair bit of cleaning up on this one.
Beetle too fast to use stacking or could have got bubble in focus.

Great details and I like the near symmetry this position shows! I think the horizontal water line and the bubble above make for an interesting composition.

A nice clean studio look to this one, John. Good view of the sharp sickle-shaped mandibles. The long middle legs and mouthparts are sharp, but the top of the head looks soft. I'm not sure if this is a DOF issue or something else. (?) Also, there appear to be some faint horizontal streaks in that area - maybe marks on the glass?

    Thanks both
Steve- I reckon the focus poit was a bit off from the front. In couldn't work out the lines but I did assume is was the glass, but I am usually pretty careful. Senior moment maybe !!

Very cool pose. I think it will be worth trying for another one of these with a bit better IQ. I would use a different background too. Those streaks look like reflections or imperfections in the glass to me.
