    Default Siblings - D500

I am just back from my annual loon excursion. A good year so far, with two sets of chicks on several lakes that I visit. This particular pair is about 8 days old, getting big enough to be very feisty. I think they must be boys, as they give each other great grief competing for food and seating on the parents back. I suspect they will be evicted in the next several days, esp. if they continue to rough house it so much. Great fun watching them.

This was my first serious outing for birds with the D500. The focusing is outstanding, 10 fps nice. Noise performance isn't as good as the D4, which I used in dimmer lighting conditions. The extra pixel density is def. noticeable compared to the D4. It requires less sharpening as well. Paired very well with the 600VR.

    D500 f/7.1 1/800s ISO 640. 600VR. EFL 850mm
Post: Leveled slightly, added canvas , cleaned up catchlights.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

There may be one or two more loons to follow.

    Cheers

    Randy

Wow, love this one! I had a lot of good luck with loons this year, but got none this clean and sharp yet. I love the low angle. What kind of boat do you shoot from? I love the solid green background and foreground, something I have tried for but had no success yet. I could go for a bit more room on the right. great shot!

oooops. I see that my big screen clips off the right side of your image for some reason. looks fine on my phone.

Hi Randy, your usual low angle from your boat works well, and just love the light and IQ in this. Well exposed on the greens of the parents head, and love the outstretched leg of junior. Overall, nice and sharp too.

    Congrats on your new toy.

What a super image and opportunity, Randy. Love seeing the siblings together acting up. Amazing that you have 3 catch lights and that extended foot on the wee one is precious.

A stunning image Randy---I especially like the tinge of green at Mom's throat and the blue tail tip.

    Perfect HA x 3= a great image.
I could see a version with a bit warmer balance. Otherwise, ticks all the boxes Re:POV, exposure, action and evokes emotion when viewed.

Theres so much to like in this frame, but for me it's the poses from the chicks that really makes it, all sharp, all interesting, and a very nice shot to view

Randy this is a gem excellent quality tonal range and detail is outstanding. Composition is great and the usual low angle.
I googled 12 jon boat and saw something on youtube the guy was so laid back I nearly fell asleep!
