    Default Boat Houses

There are some very colorful boat houses (not to be confused with houseboats...these structures just store boats) on one of the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York. The image here, captured at sunset, is actually of the backs of the boat houses, which I thought had a lot of character. I tweaked it with several filters in Nik CEP.

Wow, look at that color. This is a very beautiful scene and I think you have captured the mood very well. In particular, I love the reflection in the water and the color palette of the day.

I think the image could use a little bit of CW rotation as judged from the horizon line and the vertical lines on the houses. I personally would like to see it a little wider. That blue house in the middle feels being cut off way too abruptly for my taste; beside you have a really nice colorful sunset there. I would love to see the image processed before applyign the filters in CEP. I think it would look very lovely, too!

Thank you so much for sharing, Wendy; there is such a charm to this image.

Love the boldness of the colors and repetition of horizontal lines and roof peaks! The reflections are exceptional. Adhika has a good point about needing a bit of rotation to straighten the horizon. Wonderful image of local culture in how people house their boats.

The colors and perspective are wonderful, and it's great that the sky contributed to both. For some reason, I don't notice rotation unless it's really off, but I wish the sky continued across the entire blue boathouse.

I love the colorful, charming boat houses Wendy, and the nice reflections. I agree with the above comments and suggestions.

Here is an image later in the series in which I included the sky. I also rotated it slightly, and added orange to the top of the sky, which was pretty drab. Personally, I like the original crop better...I like the buildings to be more "in your face"...but I can see why others might like the repost. Perhaps Dennis' crop is the happy medium.

Wendy, the repost looks a little too crooked to me. Maybe something in between the OP and Dennis' post? I would remove the white spot on the water in the lower left and there are some darker floating things on the right that I would remove. I prefer paler palettes than most so if it were mine I would probably desaturate the green trees just a bit - they seem to draw my eye to them.

I love the image and the scene. Which finger lake was it?

Thanks, Mitch. It was Lake Canandaigua.
