This Common Yellowthroat Warbler got a bit surprised by a gust of wind catching him unawares. Minimal processing...had one branch that I removed, and levels and saturation tweaks. The focus point was a bit behind the eye (which might have been better), but getting the fluffy feathers in focus was a fair trade. Taken in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Simon: The wind fluff def. makes it a more unique image of a common but handsome bird. Agree about the focus point, but you might be able to mitigate the effect by a bit more selective sharpening on the face.
For truly stationary targets, I will often shoot a series of shots, moving the focus deeper into the frame to try to find the best distribution of DOF, but obviously, this was a fleeting moment.
Like the slight angle of the perch and its proper scaling for size of bird.
Hi Simon,
Really cute, endearing pose.
Like the clean BG and simple perch.
You needed a bit more DOF on this guy to get the entire bill in focus. Still very nice and you may be able to sharpen up the bill in PP.
Well done. Your photography skills are improving in leaps and bounds!

Very nice frame with lots of color and detail. I like the pose with the flanks being blown out and the BG looks great. You must have been pretty close as the DOF is very small but a little selective sharpening on the head will help. Nice capture
