I wasn't able to get close enough to this Syrphid fly for a "traditional" macro shot so I decided to try a fly-in-habitat approach (the fly is sitting on a bellwort plant - an early spring flower). Canon 1D X, 100 mm macro, 1/400, f/8, ISO 1600, AF, natural light, hand held. All comments are welcome and appreciated.
It works for me the fly is small yet prominent, it is well focused, the water drops add further interest and the colours are so natural looking. To top it off the image is of a very high quality.
(Bet your lovin' that 1DX)
Steve, this is a wonderful photo. I only wish that this were my photo. The composition works really well and I agree with everything that Jon said. Very well done!
