    Default Snowy Egret

Just before leaving the Clearwater area last year I spent a few minutes on the boardwalk at St Johns pass. There wasn't too much happening, but this snowy egret landed right in front of me and started displaying. The BG was all in deep shadow which provided a stark contrast to the bird. No more at the bottom of the frame, just a small crop from above.

Boy did you luck out with this opportunity. I actually like the composition a lot just as it is. The feather details are great and love the display and black BG. A winner for sure.

Mike, I love this shot a lot! I love the curve made by the neck and the tail. I am wishing fpr a sliver more at the bottom, though. Just to give some room to the lowest point of the neck-body curvature.

    Wonderful capture, Mike!

Superb pose from the subject, love the HA, clarity of the eye, colours and sharpness. Nice detail in the feathers:)

Congratulations, great work in the field as well as PP work, this is well composed and presented.

    Kind regards,

Nice image of this displaying egret. I like the dark bg. This is a Snowy Egret though, not a Cattle Egret.

Jim beat me to it (species)!

Excellent feather display and detail. I too love the curve of the feathers - almost swan-like. I'd have liked a tad more below but saw that this is all you have down there. I still dig it as is though! Perfect whites. Did you clone out something in front of the head? There just seems to be a darker blotch there...

Mike got to say the whites on this have got to be very close to perfect, that black bg as allowed you to show this to perfection.

Thanks for noticing my 'intentional mistake'! Not sure why I put Cattle Egret, must have been having a bit of a middle-aged moment!

Daniel, please can you change the title, and yes, there was a lighter patch just in from of the head that I fixed - obviously not quite well enough though!

    cheers for commenting

Hi Mike, love the intense stare, and you certainly nailed the whites. I do like the raised tail, and everything just pops against your darker BG. Well captured.

    I fixed your title.

Beautiful whites, as it has been said the dark background makes the image pop. Thank you for sharing, Mike.

Excellent! I love the details of the whites, the contrast with the dark bg, that eye, wow, look at that feather display, he must have thought you were cute!
