Default Little Blue Heron at dusk

I had one of the top bird guides in Asia staying with me for 2 weeks and we did lots of birding around New York City. One of the birds he really wanted to get was Little Blue Heron. So we went to a local salt marsh at Great Kills Park in Staten Island where I know they nest. As luck would have it we got there at low tide when the marsh was exposed and the sun was setting. It was a clear and perfect night. He got his heron and the light was just perfect so I went back to the car and got my camera.

Canon 7d2 and Canon 500 f4ii. Hand held. ISO 800, F4.5, SS 1/800. Single focus point just below the face at the crook of the neck.

Converted in DPP4 using auto white balance. In PS I leveled, cropped a bit, sharpened and did noise reduction to background.

I like the heron and its feather textures on the back. The raised foot is good added interest. I do find the BG a bit distracting, but it does show its marshy habitat very well.

Thanks Daniel. I agree it is not an award winner but a shot in good light and in the birds habitat. Your feedback is exactly what I wanted confirmed. Thanks.

Isaac my comment would have been identical to Dan's. You could try adjusting the background with Viveza - de-structure and lower contrast.
