summer tanager (maybe western)

This rosy male perched on the bottle brush bush fro a mere seconds and did not disappoint. Taken in Texas last April. Processed in DPP and minimally in PS, removed lower right vegetation.

Hi Ann. I think the bird on the foliage looks really nice. As does the background. In all it is a pretty picture to look at. However I think there are some things that could be better. This may be personal but to me the head angle is not ideal. The bird is looking and facing a bit away. The reds look are overdone to me. I am very familiar with this bird and i think the reds should be brought down a bit. Many of the feathers, especially the chest feathers look a bit soft to me. I guess 1/500 was not enough to freeze the action. Often if it is even the slightest bit windy such small stems will shake a bunch in the wind. In addition the upper beak is over exposed.

What a lovely image. The BG and perch are stunning and really showcase this lovely bird nicely. I like the pose of the bird and you chose a very nice composition.

i like the pose and the environment, yes HA could be better and the reds are a bit over saturated. With challenging images like this you need to check your histogram to make sure the reds aren't blown, if they are like above you can tone down the red channel a bit

I like this too Ann, very much. Well composed and the BG is superb.

Agree with Arash regarding reds, I do admit I am not familiar with the species but the colour does appear a tad oversaturated - easy fix if you so inclined. Beak a little overexposed, can be recovered IMO. Try aim for a higher shutter speed if possible, it would make a big difference in terms of detail and clarity.

Love the bottle brush, makes a great perch here (I have it in my garden too, it provides shelter for a great number of avian species and looks stunning when in flower). You must be thrilled with this, wonderful capture of a truly beautiful bird. Thank you so much for sharing, a pleasure to view

Eye catching image, I think it is overexposed and the reds are definitely oversaturated, I suspect going back to raw could improve

Hi Ann,
I think this is excellent.
All you need to do is lower the exposure by a third of a stop and it would solve all your issues.
Feather detail in the reds is all there so this is an easy fix.
The eye looks great.
I wish for a slight head turn our way to make it perfect but still a shot I would love to have in my portfolio.
I would not have my signature in red for this image although I know you were color coordinating. For me, it pulls my eye away from the gorgeous tanager,
