Maybe some of the compositional shortcomings and a modification to the background has improved things a little?

Jonathan, this is wicked sharp for 1/2500. F8 is a good choice as you have good DOF and sharpness for the head, wing, tail. The composition is a bit unbalanced IMHO. It seems you need more room at the bottom and can afford less on the right. What's the BG? Looks like a wall of some sort? Loi

I have to admit that I prefer your last image of this species with the worm and tongue. This one isn't working for me, I guess b/c it's not really telling me a story and the position of the bird isn't making much sense.

Hi Jon. I liked the last Jay image better, but the detail and the out stretched wing are excellent. I would remove the ivy from the set up.

Jon I like the pose showing all those lovely blue wing feathers, think a slieght head turn and maybe see a bit more of the perch ,with perhaps a bit more ivy cover.Just a thought.

    Hi Jon
Sorry but it just doesn't quite work for me, The ivy flagging draws my eye. The bird seems unbalanced. Just my personal take.
