I got this shot in my little rubber raft, the main trick was to get between the setting sun and the birds. I just lucked out with the nice background. 7DLL 100-400ll at 370mm, 1/1250 ss, f/5.6, iso 640

I like this one very much, Michael. Nice family image with the environment. I wish to photograph these birds one day too. I guess the 100-400 with the 7D is a super nice lightweight combo for this kind of photograph from the boat. Thank you for sharing.

Michael, nice seeing these birds in their breeding plumage, something we don't see here in CA.
Nice soft BG and the loons are sharp.

Beautiful, Michael! I really love how you included the BG in this image. And then I noticed the chicks! :D

PS. What do you do to protect the camera from water damage when you are in the raft?

Thanks! So far, I am just trying to be careful not to get it too close to the water, knock on wood !! It is weather sealed, so as long as I don't dunk it, I think it will be fine.

The 3D look is very engaging and the eyes of the chicks are really cute. Nice subtle color gradations in the darks. The composition reminds me of old postage stamps

Great composition and in good light. Very lovely BG. The eyes look a bit soft to me. Not sure where the focus point is. LOi
