This is a song sparrow who was foraging right at the shoreline of the Missouri river. I believe he caught a dragonfly larva, which are very vulnerable when they exit the water to molt into the adult form. The lighting was harsh and the rock was burnt out on the original so I tried to burn it in. Otherwise the photo is about the way it came from the camera - a little sharpening. Any comments as to how to make this better would be appreciated.

Nice capture both of you. I like the pose and the snack adds to it. Maybe a bit more space left and bottom and I might clone out the white spot in the upper left. You could also sharpen the bird a bit more.
You've captured some nice action here Dave! I'd like to see a lower angle. Agree with Axel's suggestions. Here's a repost in which I did a number of things. I cloned out a couple of distractions, sharpened the bird, lightened the iris and darkened the pupil, and decreased both the brightness and contrast of the BG. How do you like it?
Doug, the repost looks great. I really appreciate the time you guys put into editing these images. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. Thank you very much, you guys are truly wonderful people.
Dave when you have trouble and the image is bit bright might want to try making a duplicate layer then experiment with blending modes. Usually multiply will be the most useful and you only need to back down the opacity !!!
