    Default Broad-billed Hummingbird

Captured this image at the Santa Rita Lodge, Madera Canyon, Arizona. The light is always very tough during the day, so I waited til the sun set to get this shot.

    Techs:
    Nikon D7100 and old 300mm f4 lens. ISO2000, f/4.5, 1/250. Matrix metering. Tripod mounted.
    CC much appreciated!

what a beautiful bird! Love the colors of the bird and the nice green BG. Understand that with your gear, you don't want to push higher ISO to get more DOF. The tail of the bird is OOF because of the f4.5 and is just a tad distracting. Don't know how much of a crop. I'd try to do another round of sharpening on the head and selective noise reduction of the BG. Well done. Loi

Nice alert pose and beautiful colors on this one. You must have been pretty close by the way the DOF fell off. I think you might have done about as best you could have with the light and the grear at hand. A higher ISO would have resulted in more noise, and its already fairly noisy. Being that you were on a tripod you could have shot at a slower SS and stopped down a bit. Well done

Thanks guys. I realize that my gear has limitations, but I was happy to capture this shot with good focus on the head and decent light. Next time, I will stop down and see how that goes!
