    Default Bear Fight (C)

I haven't gotten out in the field much lately but that will change soon. In preparation for an upcoming trip I micro adjusted my 7DII and 100-400 II combo then took it to the Bronx Zoo to test it. It was very hot in NYC this past weekend and the bears were spending time in the water. Here 2 had a play fight. Shooting at the zoo presents it own set of problems because you can't really control light angle and the zoo is only open when the light is harsh on a sunny day. I definitely prefer shooting in the wild but it is a good place to test out equipment. Here I liked how this one showed the size of the paw.

    Canon 7DII
    100-400 II @ 271mm
    1/1600
    f7.1
    ISO 800
HH, cropped from top, shot vertical, sides ff, levels, curves, color adjustments, selective dodging and burning, sharpened in CCPS.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Beautiful exposure and details my only wish would be that the one on the right had been the one at the front and the one on the left at the back if you see what I mean. A well chosen aperture DOF looks optimal.

    Dearest Rachel,

I think your equipment works perfectly and you are ready to go on holiday

This is very well exposed despite some harsh lighting conditions. Had you not mentioned it was taken in a Zoo I would have never known - well composed and not one visible man-made element in the frame.

Love the richness and glow of that brown fur, the tight grip between the two characters, mouths open as they measure each other's strength. I wish this image had sound:)

Great techs, the result is one sharp image with a super BG (nice DOF), I see some lovely detail in the fur. Don't you just love those claws!
A wonderful display of strength, what clash of powers, the fight looks serious to me - therefore I am glad to hear the bears were just playing! Wonderfully captured Rachel, well processed and presented, a pleasure to view

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Hi Rachel

Lovely moment captured here, love the size and power of that paw!
Good detail here, agree with Gabriela about gear ready to capture stunning action.
I might suggest to darken bright areas in FG and BG to focus attention on the two brutes, or even a tighter crop.
Would like to have more eyes...
    Regards

    Andre.

It's always a good opportunity @ the local zoo to brush up on one's skills before the big trip, and honestly it would be difficult to say that this wasn't captured in the wild.

Good techs Rachel , but do agree on the reversal of heads for a more ideal composition.

Thanks all. Agree about the head position but as with wild bears, these guys did not cooperate.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel
