In the original image the camera caught the branches and focused on them, instead of the Long-eared Owl. Not an "Avian" image but I liked that this is really the way we see owls most of the time and wanted to work with that idea. I used layers of buz sim from Topaz Simplify, Topaz Clean and Fractalius, with various adjustments each time.

Nancy, I love the graphic, organic look you achieved with this and it's exactly the way we usually see owls. This would make a wonderful illustration in a children's book

The little bit of color is very effective, I think. Initially, I may not have been conscious of it, but -- now that I am -- I really like it. It's all very arresting. Once those eyes become apparent, the mind wants to search among all those shapes and lines for something else that might be hidden. A great idea and very well executed.

Fantastic image, and I fully agree it would look great in a children's book - about birds maybe ?

Wow!! Love the composition peeking out thru the branches. Great use of edges and subtle color!!

What would you think about a gradient burn at the bottom? The brightness there grabs my attention.

Love the eyes and "ears!" And, the title.

I'm sitting here with a big smile on my face, which gets bigger each time I look at this image.

The subtle colors and tones work beautifully to let the slightly darker owl peer through.

Would love this print by my desk to remind me to smile.

    Love it!!!!!!

Here is a version with a bit of a dark gradient on the bottom branches, as Diana suggested. I think its a great idea. Anita, I am so glad this makes you happy!

I like both versions. Can't decide which I prefer.
