    Default GHO in flight

The sun had just come up when this GHO took flight. My camera settings were less than ideal, but with a good exposure the noise at ISO 1600 isn't bad at all. I like the way the bird is skimming the treetops with its massive wings.

Canon 1D Mark III, 700mm, f/5.6, 1/6400, ISO 1600, no flash, hand held

Looks very good despite the high ISO. I find it amazing that there is still a bit of motion blur in the wingtips even at this shutter speed. Great light, setting and pose.

Very beautiful composition Doug and I agree with you that seeing the GHO skimming the tree tops really sets this apart from other images I have seen. Definitely worth getting up early for. Really lovely detail and lighting. Congratulations Doug on a great capture.

The trees add a lot to the image, Doug. Seems very determined!

Powerful image of this powerful bird. Nicely done! The tree tops are just right.

Very neat! I can feel the swooping motion. Those trees certainly add to the photograph :-)
