Back to the Florida archive, this one takes a lot of (BG) work, but I think the effort was well worth it. Originally horizontal, cropped to vertical; so it's really making lemonade out of lemon. The only thing is that the eye was tack sharp in Raw, so that helps to sustain a lot of crop. The only thing I did in the post-processing was lifting up the shadows (+42) and increase the whites (+32) and then my BG work begins. Shooting specs: 320mm, ISO 800, 1/100, f/6.3.
Hey Adhika! This is a new one for me; have not seen any juvi white ibis before!
Like your choice to go vertical with the crop. On my monitor here at work, the image seems a little dark (but from previous experience this monitor tends to show things a bit dark so maybe not) ... were you were shooting in soft light here?
For me the legs look a little ........ mauve? -- but that may be just me. If it is how you remember them, then its accurate. I'm probably thinking of the color of adult ibis, and its quite possible a juvi's leg color would be a different shade.
Focus looks great, love seeing the whole bird here, especially the getting a clearer shot of gangly legs/feet/toes.
I hope I am not way off base here, but I wish the bird had a little more "pop". But I don't know what you could have done to get that "pop". Does that make any sense?
Appreciate the opportunity to see a juvi ibis like this. I know you have more great photos from your Fla visit, so keep em' coming.
Andrew, indeed it was shot in the shades. To be completely honest, I don't recall the color as well. But you are correct, maybe there is a slight blue there, though. I try to correct it here. Also from the conversation at Warren's thread, I now pay attention to the color rendition of different browser. Chrome on my macbook air at home is not rendering it the same as Lightroom or Affinity Photo. Preview seems to work best in rendering the same color as the photo editors. Interesting, eh?!
About it being dark, the lower half seems darker now that I look at it again. So, I use very soft quick mask to lift up the curve on the lower half a little bit. See if this helps.
Wonderful!!! Sharp, great composition, great BG, lovely soft light. (I've only seen them on the ground.) Love the setting and crop. I'd take a little more off the top, if mine.
This might be one where a very subtle Smart Sharpen on the resized JPEG would be good.
Diane & Michael, thanks so much. Those blue eyes were a first for me. I have no idea there is something like that in the world. It was kinda cute given how different it is from the pink overall color of the juvie. Does anyone know why this bird have a blue cornea?
