Another frame from the Grebes nest. The chick is taking it's first look at the world while mum tidies up the nest. As soon as the chicks hatch they live under the wings of the adults. Some OOF reed stems in BG cloned out

Wonderful capture. Nicely lit, with a great pose by momma. The eggs and the chick make a very nice balanced composition. And a beautiful, painterly background. I would love to see just a bit more of the chick's head, but that would be asking to much.

Brilliant capture David. The wet look detail on the female Grebe is lovely. The chick takes it up a few notches. I am still waiting for the pair I am watching, to hatch.

David, great behavioral shot, the image tells a story.
Nice and sharp and the side light seems to really work with this image.

You caught a great moment here David ,all the water droplets on the adult add interest to the image, and the chicks head tops it off nicely.

That is an absolute cracker, lovely pose to see a chick and eggs wow that's good. Then to top it off you have a clear and uncluttered view and a tidy nest, well spotted and well taken.

Hi David, great eye level perspective here, and you have captured the open nest nicely, for all to see the eggs. The colours look good on the Grebe, and of course, youngster popping up, puts this over the top.

Thanks to everybody for your kind and welcome comments. This image was taken two weeks ago and was the last contact I had with this family after 5 weeks of watching and photographing. I was unable to get to the nest site for three days after taking this photograph and when I returned the nest was bare and the birds were gone. Not sure whether the the last 2 eggs hatched or not as they were still still sitting on them 5 days after the other 2 had hatched, perhaps they were duds. The nest was in a remote area off the beaten track and I could tell from the lack of disturbance that I was the only person to know about it. I felt a sense of loss when I saw that the birds were gone, but it was a wonderful experience for me to see the lives of these wonderful birds.

Wonderful image David, love the behavioural aspect and the little one is adorable!

A well composed and processed image with wonderful rich colours. Love the water droplets on mommy, she seems to have just arrived to check on her eggs:) Hope the other two hatched, I certainly understand your attachment to the subjects and appreciate your experience - well seen and captured, I truly appreciate this post

    Kind regards,

Many thanks David, appreciate you taking the time to look at the website I think our older images lack IQ to some degree, still good to see we made some progress over the years, in terms of processing as well as equipment. We had better opportunities some years back but then we lacked the knowledge, nowadays our favourite destinations are getting crowded and the animals are rather scarce. I would really like to post more images in Avian but I do not have a great variety of species in my folders. I enjoy viewing though, so I pop in very often:)

Looking forward to see more images from you

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
