    Lovely image, Christian!

And a very warm welcome to BPN!

Great timing, very well captured, super techs, well exposed and I like the framing, colours, and especially the pose from the Pelican!
Love the dark BG and the splash adds to the dramatic feel of the frame, nice detail too - congratulations

    Kind regards,

That's a real top notch image, so much to see. Superb sharpness on the main subject, not easy with all the spray around, good control of the whites - one for the wall.

Hope you join up and show us some more

    Welcome Christian,

Love all that spray and the dark BKGR. Everything works great with the bird angled towards you. BTW, I think that this may not a Dalmatian Pelican--they have red bill pouches... Somebody should be able to correctly ID this bird.

The face is a bit grayed out, possibly because of the spray. For the repost I selectivelysharpened the bird's face and took some black out of the whites using selective color on a layer. Then I refined that layer with a Regular Layer Mask.

Love the studio effect with all the dark around the white bird. Nice low shooting angle and awesome spraying water. Artie extracted more of this great image's potential. As far as the ID goes I am unfamiliar with the bird. TFS.

Welcome to BPN Christian. Great looking frame with lots of impact. The spotlighted bird looks great and the water makes the image ultra strong against the dark BG. Well done

Thank you all for your comments and critique! I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me There are some more shots of this bird that might be keepers, but I haven't had a closer look at them, yet. I will try to reproduce your improvements, Artie.
It puzzles me how low the angle seems to be with a long lens as I wasn't that low, maybe 1 or 2 meters above water level behind the fence.

BTW, the day I and a friend of mine, who has been a bird photographer for several years, spent the day in the zoo to shoot BIF and to test my new lens an alpine ibex was born and we captured it. We were so lucky - and speechless! I would have missed it completely if my friend wouldn't have noticed it. This reminds me of one of your advices, Artie - To keep one's eyes and ears open.

    Best wishes,
    Christian

PS: More pictures to come (hopefully)

Late to the party. I love the spray against the black background, and a nice comp. Artie's repost gives it some punch. Welcome to BPN -- looking forward to more of your work.

I think you captured a very dynamic scene very well, others seem to agree.
There is always room for improvement of course, as Artie showed, but your original picture already had great detail, and great lighting. I especially like the very dark BG, as Lorant said, almost gives it a studio-like appearance.

    Thank you for sharing, regards,

    Robert
