    Default Afternoon Delight

My husband and I hiked to what we thought was an out-of-the-way little waterfall. Instead we discovered a steady stream of young people all having fun on the first Saturday at the end of the school term. I wanted to convey that the kids were quickly moving in and out of the water falls and used a slow shutter speed of 13 sec. I added a low opacity layer of Fractalius to add just a bit of outline to some of the kids and the rocks. The waterfalls is created by water falling through a large hole in the rock above, which long, long ago started out as a small hole in the rocks. BTW, I almost never photograph people but these kids were having so much fun it was hard not to take their pictures.

When I first saw this, I thought, how did she do it? 13 seconds....a long time in photography, but effective. Re this rarity among your photos (people), it's always fun to do something OOTB even for yourself, isn't it. Without the people here, it would be just a shot of big rocks and an opening. With them as you have done it, the photo conveys lively action. Good thought.

That amazing rock with the water coming through would be worth a lot of hiking to photograph. The color and motion of the people add a lot. Because the legs in the lower center are somewhat distracting, I'd be inclined to heal them out.

If you healed out the legs in the middle, you'd have too take out the whole person and that could be tricky. A little visually distracting? Maybe, but then the whole effect is the movement of people from all angles as they share the site.

I like it! The motion certainly conveys your story. Good thinking!

The colors make this look like a happy image. Did you use a tripod?

Thank you all! I did use a tripod and just let the kids stream in front of me.
