    Default Titanic Gull

Still from last week at the beach, this one is probably not one of those shots that purists like because of the head turn, but it's quite a comical shot. The title is inspired from the movie Titanic. I almost clipped the wing of this one, but not quite. I still had to extend the canvas just a little bit at the top. 600mm, f/7.1, 1/2000, ISO1600.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Some mighty fine work here Adhika. The pose is awesome! Techs looks spot on my friend and the composition is outstanding. There is enough detail in the rock to add interest but not detract from the titanic bird. The surf looks so clean and fresh..and maybe slightly cold! No nits, just a suggestion of maybe bringing out a little touch of green in the wave behind on the RHS?

Excellent catch of the pose, with great SS and enough of the back wing showing. I'd go for even more of that slightly greenish color in the water. I love it when it does that!

Is there room for any more brightening of midtones and bringing down highlights? Maybe a touch of detail extractor? But maybe you're at the limit for the backlighting. Certainly no penalty points for this one!

Glennie & Diane, many thanks! I totally forgot about detail extractor and decided to give it a try and it works like a charm on the bird's body. Also enhanced the cyan saturation on the water... thanks for spotting that color on the water!!

Adhika: Really like the new pic. I'm not sure I've ever heard of "detail extractor" tool; would anyone be kind enough to explain to a poor newb like me?

AP, detail extractor is part of the Google Nik Suite Color Efex Pro. The suite is now free and I would recommend anyone to check it out. The detail extractor adjust micro contrast (I believe) and bring out slightly more details from the image.

It is an amazing tool, and the entire suite is well worth getting. The various filters are easy to use and there is a lot of fun stuff as well as several very useful tools. They will appear in the Filter menu.

Dfine is an excellent noise reduction tool -- way better then Topaz. Neat Image is a little more sophisticated but also more difficult to use. Just open Dfine and it usually does a great job with its auto analysis -- leaving fine feather detail almost untouched while removing noise in plain or OOF areas.
