    Default Fish Crow

This Fish Crow was photographed at Great Kills Park in Staten Island, New York. It was late in the evening with clear skies and strong sun. I was trying to get shots of a Harlequin Duck that was spotted but the bird vanished. So my attention turned to what was there before the sun got too low. These crows frequent the parking lot at the harbor and look for an easy meal. It was sitting right in front of me but a crow sitting in the grass is a pretty boring shot. So I waited for some action and got lucky as the bird was flushed off by a passing car.

Converted in DPP 4. In PS I adjusted the highlights and shadows, added a small amount of contrast and saturation, sharpened and applied noise reduction to the background. I also cloned out a few distracting items in the background and added canvas on the right.

The head angle the crow gave you gives us instant connection with it, excellent. Good view of the near wing, and good details on the face and body. The image does have a wider field of view sense to it, which explained by the focal length. Perhaps a touch tight on the composition, and there is an area with less texture in the BG, ahead of the face, that could use some (if that is an area you fiddled with).

This is full frame so no room to loosen the crop but I agree with you and wish there was more room. The bare area was like that and is the area I copied to extend the canvas. Fixed it in my file and cloned in some more texture. Thanks for pointing it out. It was not what I messed with. There were 2 small signs visible in the background that I got rid of.

Great looking frame. Not that easy to get this with good light and exposure so well done in that department. Sharp and detailed. Well done
