These guys are still being difficult at times and so both 'Goal posts & Thinking' has to change.

They still use the meadow and when visiting the hunting ground around the old nest site, (which I hope will be used, but nothing concrete as yet), they just drop down from the old Willow Tree for any bugs, beetles, caterpillars etc that may catch their attention. So it's just a sitting and waiting game, in the hope they will land somewhere within the lens zone. Certainly using the old 2x & 500f/4 MK1 lens was a non starter, but with the new glass of the MKII, MKII extenders and the current bodies allowing higher/greater ISO range (ISO5000), what a joy and no hesitation, can't wait to take the 1DX MKII up here, although that will see a new type of species before the Little Owls.

I've seen this before... thanks for the email, Steve. I really like this, not the usual owl on a perch. Thank you for sharing.

Perfect placement of the eye in between the grass stalks and excellent sharpness where it counts.

Steve - This is now a new favorite of your little owl shots. Love the peeking out look and the frame filling feel. I'm sure you'll be trying for some similar images of much larger species soon.

    TFS,
    Rachel
