    Default Black-necked Stilt Love

This black-necked stilt pair was photographed in a marsh while on my belly in the mud using a skimmer pod...big mistake. The settings are wonky b/c I had been using a 2xTC until the subjects got too close and didn't have time to change settings b/c the action was so fast. Removing a TC when you are on your belly is not an easy feat, and mine ended up in the mud. I did however manage this capture, my favorite of the series. I am fond of the environmental elements and like seeing the remnants of bubbles which the male created while enticing his mate.

I would have liked the skimmer pod (now sold) had it been a bit wider and higher around the edges allowing one to lay tc's in it without fear of them rolling out so easily.

I think I could look at shorebird pictures all day. What a wonderful mating photo. Feather details on the spread wing look perfect. Pose and the surroundings are top notch. Eye contact of the female takes it over the top. The only thing that I can see that may be off is that the head of the male looks a bit soft to me. Could be my monitor but from what I could tell perhaps the head could use a bit of selective sharpening.

I own the skimmer pod and hardly ever use it now that I got the tripod that Artie recommends. It has 3 settings and when the legs are extended all the way out the camera is just a bit higher than what it would be with the pod. Gives me one less thing to haul around. Plus now I have a $100 frisbee that doesn't fly

Wow Marina! The poses are about perfect and yes, the females HA is even better. I like the fact that we can see the males feet real well. The exposure and details look spot on and I like the green Bg. Pretty darn nice.

Lovely Marina! I like the Bg very much. The bubbles are a nice touch as well. Everything just works here for me.

I was thinking about purchasing a skimmer pod....maybe not.

great handling of whites and blacks, love the mating behavior and the low angle. In an ideal world the lump of mud wouldn't be there but a lovely frame regaedless

Think the fact that you have a nice head angle on both the birds make this for me,already mentioned I know but the exposure looks spot on,great action Marina.

This is just about perfect, Marina. Great poses, exposure, background...and everything else. Before I got to the end of your narrative I was thinking the same thing -- a bigger skimmer pod for shooting in the marsh, maybe the size of a bathtub.
