I did this so long ago that I used Pixel Bender to make it. I first created a composite to give the shot a nicer background, then used the filter for this look.

I love it! The only thing that would improve this image would be to have the entire bird in the frame. Love what you did with pixel bender. The Quail stands out nicely from the bg. That black feather thing sticking out by the head mimics the shape of the bg pattern. Beautiful details in the Quail. Excellent.

Hey, Kerry, wonderful to have you posting! I am a big fan of pixel bender and its assorted contortions and miss it a lot. Nothing quite like it. A gorgeous Quail, and I like how his back and the sky swirl in the same cool pattern.

Great color. Although the quail does stand out well from the background, I wonder about subduing the more background part of the background (the upper part) some so it's just a little less distracting. You did a very good job of transitioning the Pixel Bender effect on the quail. I like the opposing diagonals of the quail and the foreground grasses.

For those missing Pixel Bender, Alien Skin's Eye Candy has a great Swirl preset with lots of adjustment capability.
