This image is from a recent trip south to photograph the Florida Burrowing Owls and their chicks. This is a chick outside on top of the sand excavated for the burrow/nest. I could not help but think of a little child hanging it's head and saying I'm sorry... thus the title. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Burrowing owls are always so much fun to photograph. I like the added vegetation here. I do think I would have preferred this in vertical or with more room above. The owl looks as though it could use some more sharpening.

Hi Marina, thank you for viewing and commenting. After reading your comments I revisited the image. I do not have any room on top without adding canvas, so I went back to the beginning being more careful at each step. The composition is slightly different but overall I think the image is better.

Hi Joe, I think you need to make a decision first off when you go to shoot, do I shoot portrait or landscape?

I prefer the RP and the choice of going landscape, but wished the subject to have been slightly smaller in frame. By all means compose in camera, right call, but give a little latitude for final cropping. Don't make the mistake of shooting landscape and crop portrait, that's not the way to go - the image will suffer in the long term no question and to be avoided at ALL costs.

The face looks a bit dark, my advice, try some Curves & masks, not Shadow/Highlight, that is not the right tool. Tonally the RP has more depth, but as I say, the face/eye has suffered a bit more in the RP.
