My wife and I drove out to Magee Marsh, Ohio last week, with a stopover in upstate NY where I got the Spotted Sandpiper. We've been to a few of the world-renowned warbler hotspots in the past, including Magee, but our timing has always been off. This time, we arrived in the parking lot, at 3:00 PM on Thursday, and saw a crowd of 100 people jockeying for position to see a rare Kirtland's Warbler through the brush. 50 yards away, also on the edge of the parking lot, another crowd was enjoying a tree that sported 15 species of warblers. The cold front and its northerly shift in the wind held the warblers on the south side of Lake Erie for the three days that we were there. An amazing fallout the likes of which I had never seen. Anyway, here's the first one that I've processed -- a very acrobatic male Cape May. Full-height, cropped from horizontal. Removed some branches. More warblers to follow.
