    Default Spotted Sandpiper

While I was off searching for warblers on a recent trip in upstate NY, my wife visited relatives, and then took a walk near the hotel. When I returned, she said she had spotted a Spotted Sandpiper in a lovely park right behind our hotel. I immediately searched for naught; but found him on a second attempt. He was foraging quickly along the pond edge. I ran to a spot where I could get ahead of him and ambush him coming toward me, and got to a promising spot with just enough time to kneel down, hoping he would step on the rock I had chosen for him. He did! I was particularly eager since all of my previous images of this species are in non-breeding (i.e. spotless) plumage. This is full-frame except that cropped a sliver off the bottom and added corresponding sliver on the top.

Smart looking little wader Bill. Well positioned on the rock etc too. Good BG merging into foregropund. Nice all around.

    This is really nice Bill.
I just love it when a bird perches on the spot I hope for!
IQ is great and I like the BG and FG.
I feel the image could go a little bit brighter- otherwise no nits and enjoyed viewing,
    Gail

Agree. This species in breeding plumage is not easy... The spotty could go a bit lighter, especially the face which could also use a bit of selective sharpening via a contrast mask... a

Thank you all. I wondered if it needed a bit of brightening; you've confirmed it. Artie's repost is an improvement. Thanks Artie. I've gone back and adjusted the master file.

I love the water, bubbles, rock (and vegetation strand on it). Awesome pose on the perch. I too thought it looked a tad dark, glad the repost was offered to show the difference.

Pleased it picked out this stone for you and gave such a nice pose, think Artie's repost just shows off that nice plumage just a little better.
