    Default Reddish Egret

    Attached Images Attached Images

Taken at Fort DeSoto this past April. ~ 7:30AM
    Canon 1DX 600mm
    ISO 1000 SS 1/1600 F 6.3
PP: 98% FF ( had to level it slightly), Usual sliders in LR6 :clarity +10, saturation +9, sharpening+ 29 with radius 1.2 then off to CS5 for levels and I dodged an area along RHS in sky that looked blotchy. Detail extractor at 1 % to wings then USM to JPEG.
I have to say that the birding in Florida this year was the quietest I have ever experienced. Fort DeSoto was very quiet. One day, the only birds in the North lagoon were 12 semi-palmated plovers, 1 marbled godwit and the reddish white morph and a few laughing gulls. I patiently stayed the entire morning and nothing else flew in. Several people felt it was due to high winds that the SW coast has experienced all spring as well as high water levels. I hope this is not something to do with global warming and population decline.
Mind you, a day of Florida birding is always a thousand times better than Nova Scotia birding!
Comments and critiques are always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
    Gail

Beautiful capture in very nice light. Marvelous full wingspread and you even got him to turn his head. The water droplets falling from each foot are a nice bonus. All IQ looks excellent to me.

I watched what was probably this Reddish on many mornings this April. Amazing how tame he was, as he'd often get inside my minimum focus distance so I'd just watch his antics. I certainly agree that birding was slow this year. We spent 2 weeks in Sanibel and then another 4 weeks around Fr. De Soto. Many have commented that Ding Darling has been on the decline for years, I just hope the same isn't starting to happen with Ft. De Soto.

    Hi Gail,
A beautiful golden light full spread smiling Big Red capture! Sorry to hear you experienced a scarcity of birds and migrants. love the pose and the water droplets... The BG is a sweet one with the color gradations. I love it and at ISO 1000, a beautiful image.

Hi Gail, lovely incoming pose showing off the wings, good HA, sharp, and what sweet light you had here. I really like the colours of the layered BG, and a droplet off each foot takes this up a few notches.

Beautiful image! I love the light, color, and sharpness. One of my favorite birds in a neat pose, great background, well done! It was slow for me on my annual Florida trip in late Feb, Estero island, Bunche beach, and even Sanibel, were messed up with all the water coming in from lake Okeechobee :(

A "slow" week with the species you mention would make me feel like in heaven! That is simply a gorgeous Reddish Egret image. The floating pose is over the top, and the BG is so good. Congrats!

Sensational image Gail. It looks like you have the bird on strings, just incredible work. I'm not familiar with this species, is that a plume trailing from behind?
