Jon you are getting some very different pose on your birds, this one looks great just leaving that very delicate perch, all works very well on that excellent bg.

Great pose, with the head super sharp and tail and wingtip blur giving a real motion to this takeoff shot. I like the delicate, but thorny perch and background is great.

    Hi Jon,
Nice pose with the bird taking off. A fine background too with good details. I like the perch as well.

Neat perch, good BG, good head angle and sharp on the face (where it needs to be). The only thing I would prefer is a better wing position, especially the near wing.

Hi Jon, love the light in this, and very well timed for the take off. Sharp where it counts, lovely colours on the Chat, and in your BG, and his grub a bonus. ( pun intended )

Nice action shot, nice sharp head and eye, the wing looks a little out of focus, but that could be motion too. How do you feed them? Do you just put the worms on a platform near the perch you like and wait?

A friend of mine has been baiting the area since February on a daily basis with niger seed and general purpose bird food. Toward send of March he begins to add mealworms, the chats and occasionally wheatears take them. The starlings just devour them by the handful! There are a couple of large rocks where the bait is placed, they are adjacent to a field so the background is entirely natural. We just park the car about 4m from the rocks and move slightly as the sun moves round. As you might guess there are frequent disturbances with dog walkers and people just literally walking in front of the camera, and yes some walk up in front of the camera and ask what we are photographing.
