An unusual composition, what with the head pointing out of the frame and all but it totally works for me. In fact with the branch shaped the way it is, I don't think the head turned the other way would work nearly as well.Love how the branches lead you towards the bird and that's a splendid eye it has. Super shot.
Hi Lance,
nice image, good head angle on your bird, but he is looking away from the frame... I would crop the left branch at the hight of the bird's neck and add canvas to the right of the fram to give him space to look into...:D
Hi Lance Agree with Sean I like the perch so much the bird placement is just fine. I like the careful space given to the perch for the borders, great expression on the bird !!!
Could work on the eye and tone the whites around the neck a bit !! I like it a lot !!!
Thanks AL - Obviously I had to wait a considerable time for the bird to face the opposite direction and the right expression, but as you can see I did that on purpose. The bird and the perch really tend to balance the shot.
:)

Love it as it is - beautiful work as always, Lance!!
What a great bird, love the perch!
Lance,
It's juvenile black-shouldered kite.
Geoff.
Hi GeoffG - I thopught the black shouldered kite was more white bodied than this - I could be wrong.
