I have been watching these Grebes for over four weeks now and feel very privileged to have witnessed many intimate moments. The male bird? is presenting the female? with a feather he has plucked from his plumage. I am not sure why this has happened but it may be something to do with strengthening the bond.

Hi David, yu are getting some nice behavioural images from this site, it's paying off by getting out there.

Personally I might just clone out those three highlight 'strips' on the reeds, a very quick fix. If you want/need some inspiration, checkout my good friend Andy Rouse's recent images of these, it might spark another option/direction for you. Perhaps vary the time of day or conditions perhaps, just for variety???

    Keep it up.

    Sorry david
Wrote this a while back and forgot to press the button !
Thats a superb photograph and Natural History record David. Still the sweet BG and less blue in the nest material.. Shows it pays to stick at it. A fine image
The ritual may be something to do with the fact that the adults feed the chicks with feathers for oil. Could be practising for the hatch which must be imminant. Sure the right bird is the male.
I can feel some gtreat family shots coming up soon.
