This Reddish Egret caught my eye at Ding Darling a few weeks ago. This egret has 2 white feathers that makes him look like he got his corporal's stripes. Not only is he banded but he may also be being tracked by the NSA, as there is an antenna and transmitter glued to his back.

D4 with 600mm and 1.4 TC, tripod mounted. ISO:1250, Ap:6.3, Spd:1/1250. Darkened the beak and eye, detail extractor and tonal contrast on the egret only, neat image noise reduction and smart sharpen on the egret only.

Comments and critiques all gratefully accepted.

A very nice capture, John. I love the outstretched wing over the head, and the bird stands out nicely against the green reflections in the water. Did it occur to you that this may actually be a drone, disguised to look like a Reddish Egret?

Hi John, I love the pose you have captured here and the trailing water. Looks really cool. However to me the image seems somewhat overexposed and the colours look a little duller than usual. Perhaps play a little with exposure and contrast in photoshop and see if you can bring more of the colours out and reduce the effects of what seems like harsh light.

Hi John, Very nicely done, and i recognize this guy, bc when i was there in February, all his bling was right where it is here in your image! There is an interesting reddish egret tracking survey that friends of Ding Darling are conducting, interesting read if you google it... Ill post mine and maybe we can compare tracking numbers, but i too have the same two white feathers, so maybe its the same bird! TFS
