Captured this RHWO in 2014 on a leaning dead tree in a clearing in the woods at a nearby park. The female is just inside the hole, and would poke her head out occasionally. Was hoping to get an image with the two, but no such luck. C&C welcome.

Not a species I'm familiar with, but a great looking Woodie. I think your settings here have hurt the overall IQ on the shot, in my opinion you could have done with a higher shutter speed and your camera can certainly handle a higher ISO without any problem.Might be with trying another round of sharpening on the head.
Hi Geoff, an unusual angle of a tree trunk that we normally see posted, but it works for me. Excellent exposure on the Woodpecker, and I like how he is framed between the main trunk, and the OOF branch in the BG.
Good one, Geoffrey. The capture angle may be a bit steep -- tell him to come down a bit when we next visit -- but it's a great look at the bird in a perfect woodpecker pose, nicely exposed.
My issue with this image isn't the woodpecker. Your OP looks to be sharpened just about right and the colors look good for this species. For me, the tree is way too bright. I would burn the tree by about 15%. It detracts from your bird.
