    Default Lesser Scaup @1000mm

I crossed paths with a friend at a local park last week, and he kindly lent me his 2X teleconverter to try. That was before I even realized that I had left my 1.4TC at home! Awesome coincidence, and I was more than happy to get to try images at 1000MM. I have to say that although the AF does take a hit, especially for moving subjects, I was pretty impressed with the optics. Something to think about adding to the gear bag....

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 2XTC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, darkened the pupil, a few of the worst offending specular highlights removed from the chest and reflection. Audio used.

Nice image, good use of the 2x extender.
When I switched from 500 Mark I to Mark II, I noticed that it became very slow with focusing using 1D Mark IV camera.
I haven't tried it with 7D Mark II yet.

Lovely light and color, and your signature POV. Glad to know the 2X is workable.

Stunning. Makes me wonder how the 2X III would fare on my 500 v1.

Lovely image with a wonderful feel to it, as though it's just gliding along in the calm water on a beautiful day. I don't know how you manage withOUT the 2xTC, and I am using the old 500 and 2x. I use it about 40% of the time down here.

As to P-A's question, the version III teles are made only for the new version II long lenses.

Another winner. Very nice feel with the water pushed in front of the bird, soft colors and light, low angle and the yellow eye. TFS.

Well, I really don't think you can have any issues with the IQ that combo gives! The added length has made the angle look even less acute and the BG even more diffused. Another winning shot.

The BG and Scaup look great Dan, especially the measure of the birds intensity by the bow wave and the fixed eye, you must have been playing his song. Thanks for sharing your experience with the extender, I was wondering if you were using the x2 ii or x2 iii?

Thanks guys! Yeah, he was bee-lining it fast and hard towards me! Matt, that was the MKIII of the 2X TC. Marina, those MKIII TCs do work with the older lenses? I think they just cannot take advantage of newer AF technology like the newer lenses can...

Hi Dan, excellent low shooting angle and what a great HA. You have exposed this so well, and love the hint of the green sheen on the head, together with the pastel colours of the BG.

Like Marina, I shoot with my 2X TC most of the time.

Superb details, and beautiful colored BG. The HA angle is great aswell and those bright yellow eyes really stand out.
