I was just about done with photography that morning North Beach. I was slowly picking some shells to bring back home to my kids when I spotted this Black Skimmer flying far away along the shore but heading towards me. Picked up the gear in the hopes it would continue past me...well it did, and it started skimming right in front of me!! Chimped the result on the LCD, cracked a huge grin, and then resumed picking shells. Florida...paradise...
Canon 40D + 100-400L @340mm, 1/1250s., f/7.1, ISO 400, -0.7 EC, fill @ -0.7 FEC, handheld, ~75% full-frame.
Great exposure control, details and eye contact. There is a slight S/H halo around the bird's right wing and a sharpening halo around the head and bill.
