I was pretty happy that his handsome fella came in so close for a better view of its appealing colours. From far they look only black-and-white, but they are far from only that! I did use audio to coax it in closer, but they don't usually come in THAT close (not in my experience anyhow).

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/7.1, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped a bit top and left, darkened the pupil, a couple of brighter small white specks removed from the plumage (spot removal tool).

The colors of the head came out nicely. The water color is nice and the whites exposed well.

Wow!! Nice job! This is my "nemesis duck" I can never get close enough to them, or get the good light on them, of course, it doesn't help that they are only passing through here in Minnesota, and are gone in a couple of weeks. Great detail, and color capture, and the whites, while bright, don't looked clipped at all.

Another painting like duck image with beautiful colors. I very much like the water ripples in front of the bird and your composition of the image. TFS.

I love everything about this: Low angle, details, exposure of the whites and all those fantastic colors in the birds face. Really like the way the bird stands out against the muted background and the ripples as well. Very hard to get these guys close as they are notoriously shy.

No nits from me. Beautiful control of the whites, magic colors, great bow wave. I can never get anywhere near these guys.

You have captured the essence of the iridescent colors of this small duck. Very well done getting the correct head angle that makes those special colors pop with control of the whites
