    Default Kung Fu Chickens

I had a fun day with friends watching and photographing these Prairie Chickens from a blind in Western Minnesota the weekend before last. Most of the time they were just pecking around or displaying for the hens, but every once in a while a little squabble broke out! It was hard to catch them when they started getting jumpy, I mostly got this one, but unfortunately clipped a little bit of the tip of its left wing. I really liked this action image, so I brought it to photo shop for a bit of repair. ~MT

Michael, this made me laugh. What a fun capture and so well captured. I like the composition and the interaction between birds. You've done an excellent wing repair. I never would have spotted it. Not much I would do to change it.

    Thank you for sharing!

Michael: I LOVE shots like these where there is action and the bird is not static. So you did repair work on left wing? Did you also have to add canvas on the LHS as well? Anyway, your PS skills are way above mine, excellent job!!

    Great photo here, for sure.

Other than a slight magenta cast, I would only say that I envy this shot, a lot. Haha. I was in Nebraska last month for work + shooting the sandhill cranes along the Platte river. I chanced upon a company that brings photographers out to shoot (with cameras, of course) these chickens. Enough to say I was really unhappy with the setup. The subject was far and it was backlit. Enough to say I was really annoyed. I am really happy to see these captured so well in your photo, Michael. Where in MN is this? I should just go to MN knowing that I will be at "home". Dayum, I miss the Twin Cities.

Love the title!! Excellent action capture and wonderful repair job -- I can't see any evidence of it. Great color (to the abilities of my laptop), sharp with a great BG! Well done! I decided not to take time for a side trip with the prairie chicken operation (probably the same one) when we blew through there a couple of years ago -- glad I did. Too many of these things are disappointing.

Micheal I have to add to the list of admirers, just fabulous, and the repair work too well done superb work!! Beautiful light, this squabble is very reminisant of our British non native but everywhere) game pheasant. I must try and catch this before they all settle down to the serious nesting stuff, which is already happening maybe i'm too late.

Anyway thanks for sharing, a joy to view, and again fabulous work, not only on capturing the moment but also the post work, very inspiring for me on both counts.

    take care
