What a stunning bird and so much feather detail here, and love those dark saturated colors. I would personally like to see this in horizontal. I don't feel as though the bottom of the frame is adding anything. I would give it more on the left if you have it and lose the bottom.
Will, a great little bird and so well captured. I agree with Marina about adding a bit more on the LHS, but I feel the bottom with the reflection is just right. Your hide must be sitting in the water?
You sure don't have any more trouble with soft images with the 1DX The feather details and the exposure look great but I agree with Marina on the comp. The reflection below doesn't add to the image IMO so I would crop it out and then add canvas to the left. Well done William

Magnificent detail William, given you have the space I would be tempted to do a horizontal crop, consider losing some of the reflection and adding more space to the left of the image (and a bit to the right)
Nice one Will
I would go horizontal - include all the ripples, and take off some of the reflectiuon. Just my one take. Would be glad to have it as is

Hi Will, you have certainly nailed the finer plumage detail in this, and a lovely swimming pose. Exposure and colours spot on, and before reading any of the comments, I too thought about coming up from the bottom, and adding to the LHS. Great work.
late to comment on this one, but this is a superb version of a Little Grebe - difficult birds to get to and this shows excellent detail and of course the great shooting angle. Both crops would work for me
