Rain and cold make for a miserable time for this egg sitting grebe.

David you have caught the mood of the weather beautifully with all the water droplets on the bird, must be tough for them, very nicely done image.

Nicely done image. My only concern is that it is too tight in the frame.

    Hi David
Another nice one. I agree it is a little large in frame for me but has impact with that crop. It does look a teeny bit bright to me but could be my gear. No big deal.. I,ve never been able to get that close since film days.
    Good eye catcher whatever.

Looks better to me. The water droplets are now more pronounced too.

Hi David, the rain drench look is very appealing and brings atmosphere to the scene/image.

It's a bit tight in frame I feel and going slightly smaller in frame will give the subject room to breathe. Addressing the whites/highlights helps, but removing the heavy blue cast brings out more potential (within the subject) and the darks are more 'black', likewise adjusting the main warmer colours, they just appear to be a bit 'vibrant' considering the overcast/wet conditions. Having the head more parallel to you, or a slight turn to you would I feel have been better.

Where you may have cloned i.e. the two stalks closest to he chest look odd but, however there is a hint of beak about an inch below the actual beak and a line top left.

Unless this is bolted down to a tripod David I think 1/100 SS is just too slow, upping will still retain the rain, but provide a better, sharper Raw.

Hello Steve, thanks for your input. Didn't notice the blue cast until you mentioned it, have adjusted for that and the over-vibrant reds. Also added even more canvas top and left.Name: Modified.jpg

Hi David, if you have it, then I feel it's not more above, but more below, however this may not be possible due to debris etc?????

I think the RP is going a bit too far, personally, this is where you need to 'balance things' a bit more, as any changes to one colour may effect others, or multiples, I think it's more a tweak of the WB then refining the others. Not say this is right as it was taken from the OP, but may help, just hate the 'grey' plumage in the chest. BTW you RP still has the line & beak in the BKG.

Your final repost looks better regarding adding canvas to the left side and removing very slight blue cast.
However I feel the reds were ok, have been watching these birds myself and the neck feathers are pretty vibrant in any weather.
    Great image though.

Hi David, you have really captured your 'typical winter's weather' in this, and I like the droplets showing that they are nearly turning to ice. Before reading any comments, I too felt this was too tight in the frame, and Steve's repost has sorted out the colours. Love your additional space on the LHS in your RP.

Love the wet feeling that you've captured. The extra room helps in your repost; I might have liked even a bit more on the left. Steve's color balance helps too.
