    Hi Jon, I might just prune back to the last 'nodule' of the stem before it intersects the subject, nothing you could do with the wing tip and stem. Think you are about right on the SS and you may go to f/9 perhaps? Wonder, given the distance, if the 500 would be better, as it's also faster too and will still give you the compressed background?
    Again, another killer backdrop.

    Hi Steve, yes the 500 is a better choice for sure, I was at the start of a session and I chose the zoom for flexibility, once I know which perch is preferred I know which lens to use.
    Regarding the fine nodule, I knew someone would say lose it, indeed I did myself in fact I did prepare an image without it but it looked false to me. I am going through one of my "leave it as near as it was" phases at the moment. I suppose I am saying to myself the image is credible, probably not entirely aesthetically pleasing...but credible.

    I chose the zoom for flexibility
    200-400 is an even better toy and has that lovely built in 1.4 too.

    I am going through one of my "leave it as near as it was" phases
