    Default Gull

My conference starts tonight so I sneaked out to the beach and had a really good time with the shore birds this morning. Obviously I failed my biology class (and thus I became an engineer): Can someone help me identify what gull this is? To narrow it down a little bit, this was taken at Tybee Beach, Georgia. This is pretty much as-is in terms of cropping. CEP to enhance detail on the feathers and clean up the beach a little bit (probably two or three spots). Shot at 600mm, f/8.0, 1/2000, ISO 320. Maybe a little room at the bottom for the "perch"? Unfortunately that should be done using canvas extension. Now, that might be a little hard.

I'm not familiar with west coast Gulls... although this one is an immature... could be Ring-billed, Herring or ? Lovely portrait...I do not think that it needs any more "below". As it is not really a "perch", may redirect attention from the bird if there was more. Great BG. Great feather detail on the body and good bill... might be my eyes (or just this youngster's feathers)... seems softer on the back of the head and on the neck.

Adhika: Really a great shot here. How low to the ground did you get?

The large area OOF area in fore-ground right ...... I wish that somehow it was as thin as the OOF area in FH left .... a hugely minor nit, probably only to me.

I'm glad to see some photos of larger birds that are not the entire bird -- helps me when I look at some of my pics (I have these large vulture photos I'm trying to figure out) on how to crop them, or go out again and re-shoot them.

You did a great job with this one.

Gorgeous portrait!!! I LOVE it! Soft light, great detail, wonderful pose and BG! Perfect tonalities, too.

No idea what it is -- but I think it's a gull....

The OOF area LR is a bit eye-catching but I think it could be softly selected with a quick mask and darkened a bit. Balance contrast to taste. Might be possible to add a bit at the bottom -- wouldn't take much. Content-aware fill can be amazing most of the time.

Look forward to what others thing.

Sandy, this is definitely a juvenile. I am leaning towards the ring billed just because of the bill. Maybe?

Andrew, I know what you mean about the LR OOF. Diane gave a really good suggestion to fix that and I think it works. I also got around to add a sliver more canvas at the bottom in the repost here. What do you guys think?

Nice portrait, Adhika. Definitely a Ring-billed Gull. Tybee, Georgia,, watch out for the missing hydrogen bomb.

Adhika, Sorry I'm getting to this late. But nothing more to say! Just absolutely beautiful. Your repost with the sliver on the bottom is the bees knees.

I like the first image better.. I personally don't find the bottom left area distracting... The dodge and burn on the second image i find more distracting as it doesn't feel balanced or natural.. Im sure with some tweaking this could be effective...

Sorry i can't help with its ID.
