Photographing 17 Painted Dog puppies trying to get a drink from their mother is not easy!
We were parked in such a way that the den entrance was eye level with us, which made this angle easier.

Not sure if this will work for anybody (probably a "Marmite" shot ), certainly I needed more DOF in this case, but I also wanted to be able to isolate the ones I was focusing on - a tradeoff in this kind of chaos.
    Full frame as shot.

    Nikon D3s
    Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II

Hi Morkel - Shooting the chaos of a den site can be really difficult. I like the cuteness factor here but do wish that the feeding pup was turned/angled in such a way that we could see a bit of the face. For me though this is more of a record shot of a fun sighting.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Morkel just a bit of a head turn from the suckling pup would have made this for me,do like the scene of these pups waiting there turn.

    Hi Morkel

My take would be F7,1 (ya, 6400 ISO- D3S can handle) and focal point on eye of first pup on right.
Would back off a bit on contrast- blacks a bit choked.
Very nice angle on the chaos...
    Regards

    Andre.

    Hello Morkel:)

Very sweet capture and would love to see a sequence, LOL. Have you more from this sighting, Morkel?

Love the little one stretching up to get a bit more milk, his tummy is already full:) Quite delightful, marmite or not I did enjoy viewing, very special my friend - thank you for sharing

Hi Morkel -- A great sight to witness and photograph, I am not sure about the image quality but the moment makes it a good image . Agree with Andre the blacks do look a bit choked and it is a bit tight at the bottom but considering it being a FF image you have done it well in not clipping it from the bottom .

    TFS !

Morkel you post some astounding images, this is not quite so astounding to me as some, but hey I love marmite and this. For me the two left most pups movement the totter of the more central illustrated by the foot raised and the left most clinging to mum are priceless. The take also reminds me of shots seen here where "ele" is framed by mum,but this concept applied to this amazing hunter is new to me,I love the concept though.

Heart warming to see or rather hear of 17 pups,i hope they do well, painted dogs are incredibly special to me : My art exam for o level was based on something i'll never see a group of them hunting. So this picture is both evocative and heart warming.

Thanks for sharing mate,it may not really blow my mind as many of your pictures do,but no doubt it's brought a smile to my face and some joy, that's no bad thing for me thanks so much for sharing the chaos must have been so **** special to see!!

    take care

    Stu
