    Default Female Hooded Merganser

A small group of three female and one male Hooded Merganser were patrolling a patch of open water enclosed by ice at the far end. Good thing as when I approached, instead of flying away they swam up to that ice "barrier" just behind small tall dry reeds. Nothing that a bit of audio could not help to coax them into view and closer range for better photographic opportunities...

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld while lying prone at the edge of the water, a bit of CCW rotation + small crop for comp (~80% FF).

Dan the bird itself looks great with lovely detail and sharpness ,the way the water and the bg all merge beautifully together, fine piece of work.

Sweet Dan, killer detail, DoF looks spot on, likewise the PP. As an alternative, 16x9 looks good too IMHO.

Nice low shooting angle, excellent matching water color.

Nice and clean, I like the low angle, the file is a bit too small on my display and I just wish the hood was a bit more prominent

Hi Dan, love the light in this, together with your standard low shooting angle. Nice and sharp, and love the complementary colours of the BG.
