    I think that "head on" images are really tough to do right. I do like the different perspective of viewing this one. However, I think that you needed a higher angle and more light to get the most out of it. It also seems like the color is off......too "cool". When you try this type of image again, try for good light and remember to use more DOF.

    Bill,

    Interesting looking bird. Normally I would suggest that the bright spots in the BG are distracting but the bird kind of reminds me of a showgirl on a stage - big fancy headdress etc. So the spots look like OOF stage lights. I am guessing that the bird is in shadow hence the blue tones of the white bird.

    Focus occurred on the beak tip. In the future, go for focus on the eye. When I do these images, I will go vertical like you did, and select a focusing point at the top and left or right of the middle and place that on an eye and make the image.
