Great detail Morkel even down to the bit of slobber in the mouth .Perhaps not the prettiest animal but your image shows him in the very best light.Would love the opportunity to try to photograph these.

Hi Morkel i really like this one ... just wish for a bit more room all around , as the hyena is moving and does look a bit cramped in the frame .
I might try for a bit more tonal variation in the stunning coat of this species .
To be honest a would rather like to see the panning shots and how they come out .... please post one

Hi Morkel - Nice to see a brown hyena, especially one in nice light. The walking pose is great and so is the catchlight. Complementary tones of the Kalahari sand also add to the image. I too would like to see one of the panning ones.

Rachel

A great shot, I love the two feet off the ground, he /she really is a curious looking animal. A good bit smaller than the striped hyaena but the head and neck look pretty powerful to me. I too would like to see how the panning shots turned out.

Wonderful sighting and capture Morkel,
This must have been around 6 am? We seem to always spot them during the wee hours of the morning when leaving camp, they drink and then depart in a hurry, over the dune and out of sight. Often just too far for our 500 lenses:)
Those Brownies are indeed skittish, you are so fortunate to grab a few images! Love the weary look and typical Brown Hyena gait. Sweet light. You could perhaps get more out of this with some minute local adjustments but overall I am happy with this, sharpness is there and nice detail my friend, agree with the others above you have managed to wet our appetite for the panning shots and so we are waiting!
Very special image, thank you so much for sharing
Warmest regards,

Hi Morkel
Typical of those golden light moments in the Kalahari where the reds are in abundant- viewers do not always understand.
He is giving you the familiar side glance- trusts nobody..
Would just give some space in front, if you do have.
The techs are about for BIF, why 1/3200?
Looking at DOF, F8 worked.
Agree re some tonal clarity.
Love them Silwer Sluipers...!

Thanks folks.
Andre - wanted a high SS for the 2x on the 400mm, to ensure sharpness when handholding LOL
The panning shots didn't "pan" out as I'd hoped, might post one at a later stage!

Hi Mork, great angle shooting from your vehicle, and I like the walking pose with the raised foot. The light and colours takes the image to another level.
