Default Yellow Billed Kite - 5Ds

I had a turn at using the Canon 5Ds the other weekend, and decided to try it out at the Vulture hide at Vulpro, just north of Pretoria. The hide was not built at the best angle to the morning sun, ( as it is used as an office for the Vulture research ) but we have to make the best of what we have infront of us. This Yellow Billed Kite had been feeding on the carcass left mainly for the Vultures, and I quite liked how he was perched on top of ribcage.

Hi Stu, nice detail, personally I think you could go tighter.

Would like to see images with much higher ISO, did you have the opportunity for any BIF with it???

BTE - Grant seems to be the man to contact if you want some gear to test.

Very nice indeed Stu. Posted this earlier but didn't load.
At first I thought the vegetation was old rusty metal ! Good gentle graduation on the Bg too.

Thanks Steve. This was a very unproductive morning, so not the usual incoming shots from the vultures. For some reason I dont have any with higher ISO's. It wouldnt be a problem to use this camera again, so will keep it in mind. Will try a tighter crop too.
I believe Grant is giving the 1DX II a test run. Always good to read his reviews, as he has first hand experience in the field to test new equipment. Cheers.

Yes I saw Stu, but prefer my own sources, as the clock is hopefully ticking, but all are done from Beta versions, although they should be on route now and I'm sure a Firmware will follow with a month or two. Still not sure why they have compressed files rather than Nikon uncompressed???? Might drop him a line as we have drifted for several years now, as you never know who you bump into, as it's a small world!!!

Would it be possible to you fwd a RAW, just curious to see a file from the camera and the size you are dealing with?

    Cheers.

Stu it took me a while to figure out the perch certainly different, nice smooth clean BG and the bird itself very natural with good feather detail, looks like your Yellow billed Kite as the same forked tail as our Red Kite.Don't see anything I would change.

Superb image Stu, great clarity and colours, perfect HA from the bird. Very dramatic. Agree with Steve above on going a bit tighter.

Enjoyed this very much, could you lend me that awesome perch for one of my lion images

Hope you have a wonderful afternoon, warmest regards,

Great pose on the ribcage. Less than ideal light handled nicely.

What a great perch. Great bird and BG.
I would crop from LHS and above. Excellent IQ and I like the color palette.
What did YOU think of the camera?

The image speaks a thousand words. Great detail, certainly a tighter crop is warranted as others have suggested. Thank you for sharing, Stu.

Hi Stu, Great capture; I like how the hawk looks so clean, composed and dignified in contrast to the unsightly appearance of the carcass. I might disagree with everyone about a tighter crop; why not show the entirety of the carcass and some habitat. Its not really about the kite, but more about the environment. steve
