These guys are about to depart back to more northern territories for the breeding season, but not before weathering another snowstorm. From the same session as the Purple Finches I posted last week. The "rule" says more room in front than behind the subject, but breaking it worked really well here IMO.
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld from the car, small crop for comp, eye work including darkening the pupil and enhancing the reflection.
If this is breaking the rules Dan it works perfectly well for me,think these snowy scenes that you are posting are superb, bird looks so natural with plenty of detail.
The twigs on lhs balance the composition and reframe the bird so rule not broken IMHO. Anyway a very fine image Daniel with that punishing snow and a delightful bird which attracts my greatest sympathy for what it has to endure.
Yesterday I was talking to a photographer friend about breaking the rules regarding the composition. I think I will show him this great example. Love your winter images, Dan. Makes me feel freezing cold in the 41C Yucatan 1st of April temperature.:)
Another Cadieux winter signature image. The great pose fit with the single best framing option. A smidge off the top to lose the space about the branch might please you. a

Love this one Daniel.
You are soooo... correct about this image and breaking the rules of composition.
Love the IQ and the snowflakes.
Well done and well seen,
