    A Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) preening atop the cliffs at La Jolla, California; I thought this individual had a certain dignity and grace as he engaged in his personal grooming routine. Canon 5D III, 100-400mm IS Mark II, ISO 640, 1/1600 second @ f/7.1, image size 3286 x 4695, January 18, 2016 @ 10:40 AM.

    Love the feather texture on this. Looks like one of those china models Just a hint of something in the Bg and great rock colour. Good all around.

    Nice light, bird, and pose and you did pretty well with the off-angled light (note that the upper part of the bill pouch is in shadow...). Here I'd like to see the bird more centered to give it some room behind.
