    Default Chestnut-colored Woodpecker

Here's one of my favorite Costa Rican Woodpeckers; I just love the colors on this bird! Taken during my most recent Costa Rica workshop. Sigma was kind enough to send me both versions of its 150-600 (Contemporary and Sport) for an upcoming field comparison that I'm doing with Greg Basco. This was taken wide open with the Sport.

Canon 1Dx, Sigma 150-600 Sport at 600 mm, f/6.3, 1/160, ISO 3200, manual exposure, tripod

What a fantastic looking bird! Great colours and the crest is quite lush and nicely textured. Perfect pose with a very subtle head turn towards us. Perch and background perfect. I wouldn't mind the subject a tad lower in the frame, but all else is just super.

Hi Doug, you absolutely nailed this one. Super pose against a clean BG, and you have brought out the detail and colours so well, not to mention the sharpness. Love the leafy tree trunk. I feel the WP is placed just fine.

Wow that's good, the colours are amazing I have never seen this bird. Beautiful light and background colours too.
I am going to Costa Rica in February so I will keep my eyes peeled!!
I think this newer sigma is an enormous improvement on the 50-500mm, I am looking forward to reading the review.
