    Default double lift off

I was happy to have an image that gave some separation to this pair of brown pelicans here as they flew away. I chose this pano crop to give room and show the wonderful colors of the water and the plant life on the sandbar. I overexposed and had blinkies on the head but still needed to reduce highlights and +2 on shadows in DPP...

    Annmarie,
I hate to be a downer but the fact that the pelicans are taking off away from you creates an instant disconnect for me. Also, I think that the overlap of the wing and the body creates a bit of confusion to the viewer. I'm not the best at color correcting, but there are some oranges that look too orange and the one blue layer looks purple. Too much bottom for me (what is that adding)---more at the top would balance.

I can see why the opportunity called to you: pelicans are fun! What I like best is the foot action with flying water. Good low angle. I also like that you went for a pano crop here, but I agree with having less below and more above. It is indeed unfortunate the they were flying away from you. I don't know if they are accurate the scene or not, but I kinda like the colours.

BTW, a few blinkies on the head is no big deal, I often get some blinkies in the brightest whites in my raw exposures - they are easy to tame in post so long as they are not overwhelmingly blown out.

Ann, I understand what Daniel and Grace are saying about the crop and the angle of the birds, but for me, I really like this. The colours in the BG compliment the birds nicely. And, I have often seen tannum coloured water in beachside lagoons. I love the movement. Well done!
